The ride...

Actually went very well. The BO hit the road block (stopping and throwing his head around) about 1 min into the ride (about average) and he grabbed horn and swung the end of the reins! And Lucas jumped about 1/2 foot in the air and walked on! So not such a big issue after all. He also had the same issues with him changing bend while changing direction that I had (although he worked though it in the ride better than I have been!), and agreed that his main method of 'fighting back' is throwing his head around (which is hard on me, and I may be letting him go a bit to much in hopes of saving my hands).

He thinks that because Lucas has such a low gas tank (lots of leg to keep him going all the time, although he has his moments, most of the time he is very slow) and his dislike of actually having to lift his belly, that he wants me to use my western spurs for a few rides to get him more responsive to my legs. Im also to ride in his training saddle (which fits Lucas) for a couple of rides so that I have some security till we get him over his couple of issues.

It was really nice to watch someone else ride Lucas (only the BO, and my best friend have been on him since I bought him, one time each) He had him bridled up a bit more than I would (more of a dressage frame, but still low) but its serving the purpose, keeping him more collected for short periods of time will help him build the mussels that he will need to go long and low in a couple of months.

So the plan is that hes going to ride him once a week, and he'll watch me ride him on the weekends. With driving him in between it should be a good program for the next month so both of us work on our fitness.

Muscles are definitely good! I can't wait till Lilly's actually start showing again.

Sounds like the BO had a good ride and you've got a good plan. :)

Sounds like a good lesson and it's always nice to have a plan to follow. Good luck with Lucas.
