I survived the scope

But man it was rough.

It started out bad in that I couldn't eat or drink for 12 hours before hand which meant no drugs in the AM for my RA.  I got to the hospital at 1 and had to wait until 2 before they started my IV.  What a procedure that was.  I told the nurse that hand IV's don't work on me because of the swelling on my hands, and because my wrists are fused I cannot move my wrist to make positioning the IV easier on both of us.

I don't think she heard a word I said.  Between the slapping my hand to try and make the veins pop (which HURT my swollen knuckles) and he saying "can you just move your wrist a little more this way".  I finally stopped her at that point and pointed out that I couldn't move my wrist.  Something I had pointed out to her several times and she had heard me at least once because she wrote it on my chart!

Anyways once she got an arm IV started, and I got to met the OR nurses who were fantastic and very nice.  I did get some drugs (I did manage to forget or confuse information that was told to me later so it must have worked somewhat) but the scope was not fun.  It hurt, and every time they did a biopsy I gagged and threw up... so much fun.  It did take only 3 minutes but it sucked.

Within 1/2 an hour of finishing I was cleared to leave.  I got a milkshake on the way home, had that then a 3 hour nap then had supper.  My throat still hurts today and I'm not back to normal energy levels yet so I stayed home to rest today.  I do hope to go out to the barn later this afternoon and brush some ponies and get some equine therapy.

I am sorry you had to go through that. I hope the news from the biopsy is good. It is terrible that nurse wouldn't listen to you. It makes me mad when I hear those stories. We have to listen to our patients!! They have know their bodies for a little longer than we have.
